Frequently asked questions
The short version: you sign in with Tesla (we never see your password), CuePilot controls climate only, and you can revoke access in two taps anytime. More below — and if your question isn't here, get in touch.
Trust & safety
- Is it safe to connect my Tesla?
- Yes — and you stay in control. You sign in through Tesla's own login, so we never see your password, and you approve the connection on Tesla's screen. CuePilot only controls climate, every command is cryptographically signed by the key you approve, and you can revoke access in two taps anytime. It's built on the official Tesla Fleet API.
- What can CuePilot actually do to my car?
- Only climate: turn the AC or heat on and off, set the temperature, and use Pet Mode while parked. That is the entire scope of what it does — nothing else.
- Can CuePilot unlock, drive, or open my car?
- No. CuePilot never unlocks doors, opens the trunk or frunk, drives, or manages charging. It only ever sends climate commands. Tesla shows you exactly what you're approving when you sign in, and the Connect screen lists the permissions in plain language.
- Do you see my Tesla password?
- Never. You sign in on Tesla's own login page (OAuth). We never see or store your Tesla password, and you can review or uncheck permissions on Tesla's screen before you approve.
- How do I revoke access?
- Two quick ways, and you can use either: disconnect inside CuePilot (which deletes our access token), and/or open the Tesla app → Security & Privacy → Third-Party Apps → remove CuePilot. That fully cuts off access on Tesla's side.
- Do you track or store my car's location?
- Not by default. CuePilot decides what to do from your cabin temperature, not your location. GPS is only read — live, and never stored — if you opt in to 'Stop Errand mode when I get home.'
- Do you sell my data?
- Never. We don't sell or rent your personal data. See the privacy policy for the full details.
- Is this the official Tesla API, and who's behind CuePilot?
- Yes — CuePilot uses Tesla's official Fleet API with cryptographically signed commands, with no third-party middleman. It's built and operated by Recherche Solutions LLC.
Getting started
- What do I need to use CuePilot?
- A Tesla on firmware 2024.26.4 or newer (which supports signed climate commands) and a Tesla account. Setup takes about two minutes.
- How do I connect?
- Click Connect, sign in with Tesla and approve access, then pair CuePilot's virtual key to your car once from the Tesla app. After that, set a schedule or tap Errand mode and you're done.
- Which Tesla models work?
- Model S, 3, X, and Y on firmware 2024.26.4 or newer. If your car can receive Tesla's signed commands, CuePilot works.
Features
- Isn't this just what the Tesla app already does?
- The Tesla app pre-conditions your car manually or on a fixed weekly schedule, and CuePilot uses Tesla's own scheduler for your basic home/work routine. CuePilot adds what the app can't: Errand mode keeps the cabin cool at every parked stop on an errand run; weather-smart schedules skip mild days instead of running regardless; you can target one specific future date; and on Plus it pre-conditions before calendar appointments using live traffic.
- What is Errand mode?
- One tap before you run errands. Every time you park, CuePilot turns on Pet Mode to keep the cabin cool (or warm) between stops, so groceries and pets stay safe — and it leaves Sentry armed, unlike Camp Mode. It ends on its own when you get home.
- Does it work in winter for heating too?
- Yes. CuePilot pre-heats the cabin on cold days using the same schedules and rules — for example, heat if the cabin is below 55°F on weekday mornings.
- Will it drain my battery?
- It's designed not to. CuePilot reads your car's real cabin temperature and only runs when it's actually needed, skipping mild days. It also won't run when your battery is low and the car isn't plugged in.
- Can I schedule the car for one specific future date?
- Yes. Set a one-off for any future date and time (the Tesla app only repeats weekly) — for example, ready by 3 pm this Friday. It's free, a few each month.
- What is calendar sync?
- A Plus feature: with your consent, CuePilot reads your calendar, uses AI to spot the events you actually drive to, and — for events with a destination — looks up the travel time and pre-conditions the cabin so it's ready about 10 minutes before you need to leave. No schedule to set.
Pricing
- Is CuePilot really free?
- Yes. The free plan is free forever, not a trial, and needs no credit card. You can set recurring home and work schedules, create smart one-off pre-conditions, and run Errand mode on the free plan.
- What do paid plans add?
- Higher Errand-mode limits, recurring 'anywhere' schedules, an ad-free experience, and — on Plus — calendar-driven pre-conditioning. The full breakdown is on the Plans page.
- Can I cancel anytime?
- Yes. Cancel anytime and you keep your features until the period ends. Monthly and annual plans are non-refundable, so an annual plan is billed once and runs the full year.
